My new netbook, the Asus 1001P review

Recently I purchased a nice refurbished netbook, the Asus EEE PC 1001P from ebay seller buyit247-shop for £167. Just before purchasing I called customer support to ask when it would arrive, they informed me that it would arrive Friday (I was ordering Wednesday evening, so pretty fast delivery) customer support was nice and fast, straight to the point. Good stuff :)

Got scammed on ebay, but things turned out pretty well.

I went on Ebay and purchased a 16GB USB Pen drive for £10, when it arrived, it turned out to be 8MB, dmesg reports "[321252.688535] sd 20:0:0:0: [sde] 16384 512-byte logical blocks: (8.38 MB/8.00 MiB)"

Fun with the joggler, ubuntu netbook remix, conky, MythTV

Recently I purchased 2 Jogglers from O2 for £50 each in their recent promotion, the specs are really good for the price, featuring a touch screen and a 1.3ghz atom processor. Naturally once it arrived, first thing to do was Ubuntu running on it. I downloaded Ubuntu netbook remix and put it on my 8GB USB drive. Unfortunately, the joggler didn't boot.

Stop spoofing player counts, amusing messages in the server list on TF2.

Was just going to play some 2fort on TF2, when I noticed an amusing message. I hit refresh and got a few different messages. Whoever did this, I salute you. That said I do realize the irony of spoofing player counts to tell people not to spoof player counts.

SourceIRC Alpha Release

I've finally pushed out an alpha of SourceIRC, which some of you may notice is available in the projects section, if your feeling brave give it a try! Once I get things more stable I plan to post it on the SM forums, then the real fun begins.

G15Daemon plugin: pizza timer

Back in windows, i used to use the timer G15 plugin to time when my pizza (Or other such food) was ready in the oven. When i switched to linux and found a lack of this plugin, i was naturally sad :(

Turn your old PC into a kickass router with pfSense

Old router getting you down? Lack of features, instability, horrible admin panel? It’s time to turn your old pc into a router.

Before i built my pfsense router, i used a netgear DG834GT. It crashed alot, expecially during times of heavy load like when my brother and his girlfriend visited. Often it wouldn’t even automatically reboot/reconnect like it should do. It would usually ignore changes in settings such as port forwarding, and I often found myself manually resetting it 2 or even 3 times a day.

SourceMod: Speedometer

Written for free by request of Cronix at crystalnet this plugin displays a speedometer in the hint text box so you can see how fast you are going while surfing. It’s designed to be as realistic as possible, running speed is 12.5MPH, walking is 5MPH. Hopefully this will be useful for a few people, enjoy!

Heres a screenshot of the plugin in action.

Setting up any HL2.exe based game in wine (or L4D)

So, you’ve started using ubuntu, and you want to setup your games in linux? No problem.

First, your going to need to get wine. I recommend getting the latest version of wine by following these instructions this will make sure you always have the latest version of wine with the built in update manager.

mIRC Script to do SourceBans lookups

I wrote a mIRC Script to do SourceBans lookups. It works by connecting to a PHP script on your webserver, which pulls the records straight from the SourceBans database and returns them. Note that there isn’t much security in the PHP Script at all, so make sure to give it a read only (aka select only) account on the MySQL server. Here is an example of how it looks in IRC.
